Inspiration Journal

Today I had a spontaneous thrifting adventure with my mom. We talked about huge fashions and trends from years before- things her and her friends would look for, make, and obsess over. After shopping around with her we found some great pieces- but we came home feeling extra inspired. We went into my attic to find some of her old favorites. Then she showed me these bad boys.

That’s right- Ferragamo Heels. She thrifted them years back for One dollar and ninety-nine cents. People really don’t know what they’re getting rid of.

She showed me this top- Suede nude button down with a pinkish tone. It matched the shoes perfectly. This season I vote the deeper the V the better. Leave those buttons undone!

I paired the outfit up with Free People Destroyed Ankle Skinnies and was ready to go. This look felt effortless but classic. Can’t wait to get more outfits with these amazing shoes!

Until next time.

Welcoming Fall

I’ll be honest, this summer was one of the best times of my life. I haven’t felt so free, so happy, and so grateful to be alive in years. I am so glad I started to work less; I’d rather have a mind full of memories over a pocket full of cash any day. It was hard to make that decision- but I can’t even explain how much I really needed that time to myself. I spent my summer running around- constantly moving from one place to another, and I loved it! I’m the kind of person that LOVES to stay busy. Unfortunately with that being said I did seem to neglect my blog a bit- many apologies to you lovelies who stop by time to time! But tis the season- my very favorite fashion season of all- so I am back with an intention to stay on top of it! I feel very refreshed this fall, and look forward to being very organized and informative!

Lots of Blue for Spring

Hey friends!! It’s been a long week, ending spitefully with a little bit of snow up north. We are so close to warm weather and I can not wait any longer! I’ve been picking up some amazing spring threads lately, I’m trying to switch things up this season. I am leaning towards a very bohemian spring with lots of color and textures, and platform sandals of course.

Change is in the Air

Hey All!

Firstly I have to apologize. I have not posted in quite a while, I’ve had some significant changes occur in my life recently and had to sort out some ideas. I have also recently been working on updating the site, but that’s still in the works. So as many of you know, I have worked for Free People for just about two years now. I was promoted to the Full Time Assistant Store Manager this summer, which was more than an honor to me. I have become so immersed in this business and this company, and wish to continue on this career path. However, I may have forgotten about the fact that I was also a 20 year old full time student. Needless to say, it became entirely too difficult to balance a job that requires such intense commitment and also trying to not only pass 5 classes but take as much information from them as possible. So I had to make a decision, and I chose to take time off of work. I have to say, this was certainly one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make. I had received the job I had dreamt about, it felt so surreal, and I had to give it up.

Welcoming the New Year With an Open Heart and an Open Mind

I am a little more than grateful to say 2014 was a very significant year for me. I learned so much this year, and I learned mostly, do what you love, with love.

Photo - Erica Muller

Throughout this holiday season I was able to spend some time back home, while it wasn’t too much time it meant the world to me. It was such a calm, peaceful time. I was very thankful to be surrounded by the people I love, and was so excited to give them christmas gifts to show them how much I care about them all! I believe presentation is key, so this year I decided to try a new gift-wrapping idea.

DIY Time!

What you need:

  • Burlap (I got two 5 yard rolls!)
  • Ribbon of your choice. (Look for a ribbon with wire in it)
  • Fake flowers
  • Fake Pinecones
  • Wood-Burner
  • Tree Stumps (you can go to your local Christmas Tree shop and ask for a few! You might get some funny looks but it’s worth it!! I also found wooden gift tags at Anthropologie which worked amazing!)

The rest is pretty simple!! Cut the burlap into sections that are about triple the size of whatever it is you are wrapping, roll the gift in the burlap lengthwise, and tuck the edges around the item, no tape needed!! Then, however you so choose, wrap the ribbon and add some foliage.

The advantage to using burlap is that it has wholes in it, so you can stick the branches into the fabric. I used the ribbon with wire in it as another form of closure, in the back I twisted the two edges of the ribbon, which helped with the overall security of the wrapping.

I recently got a wood burner and CAN NOT stop using it!! It took a little getting used to, but it isn’t too tough for doing little things like this! Please keep in mind you  have to be super careful with wood burners, they get HOT!!! Make sure you use absolute caution. If you can’t get around to buying yourself a wood-burner, a pen works just as well.

The above photo is wood-burned onto the wooden gift tags from Anthropologie, but it also looks very lovely on natural wood stumps too!! I made this as an ornament/ gift tag for my sister and her boyfriend.

Aside from the presents and pretty wrapping, the true gift of the holidays is recalling upon everything that happened in one whole year; celebrating accomplishments and setting goals with your loved ones. Needless to say I am a very lucky girl, to live on this earth among so many amazing people. In this life we are able to do what we love, whenever we want. We can be around incredible, inspiring humans and share ideas and memories, and make new ones together. I feel so appreciative lately, and so excited to be alive, and if you don’t yet- I hope that’s your New Year’s resolution. Be excited to wake up for work, to watch the sun rise, meet new people, learn new things and explore your world. Enjoy your life, every single moment of it.

Sunshine Got Me Feelin’ Fine

Today was one of the most beautiful days I’ve seen in a while now! I am so happy to have gone out today- even though I only went to class. It’s days like today that keep me going- when the weather is beautiful it doesn’t matter what I’m doing, I’m going to be sure to enjoy myself, look up at the sun and the trees and appreciate the world around me (just in time for thanksgiving!)

It is a little difficult for me to blog when my work week begins (Wednesdays), so most of my posts will be Sunday through Monday! Yesterday I had a busy day, however, shopping around Hoboken with my mother and sister! It was so nice to kick back and relax with them, I haven’t been able to spend much time with my family between work and school, so I really cherish those little moments we get together.

Today I had a tough time deciding what to wear. My mindset is ready for heavy winter layers and holiday sparkles, while the weather is still demanding light fabrics and earth tones. I decided that for today’s weather I should try to combine these ideas into one transitional fall to winter outfit.

This is what I was left with:

Let’s start with the jacket- so cozy!! This denim jacket is by Free People, and finds its way into many of my outfits. It’s lightweight enough that I’m not too hot, but cozy enough to bundle up in when the sun sets and the wind picks up.

This skirt was a dream of mine since I saw it at Urban Outfitters, and I was able to snag it when it went on sale for only $19.99! I was ecstatic to add it to my wardrobe- anything lacy and sheer is my cup of tea. I love skirts that you can show your legs through- and for short girls like me it serves as a good way to wear maxi skirts without looking too overwhelming. Today I wore a body con slip underneath, which gave me coverage up top and below.

This tank is only $20 from Free People and I find myself wearing it so often! I love this green color, but the other colors are great too! (I have it in white, black, and green!!) It’s cute to just hang, but I really like to tie it on the side or tuck it into my jeans or shorts.

People have been commenting on my hair quite a bit recently, asking where I get my hair done and they seem surprised when I tell them I do it myself. I will soon be posting a more detailed description of what I do to get this pastel color, so stay tuned!! Have a great rest of your Monday and keep checking for more posts!

If there is anything in particular you would like to see me style or any DIY projects you want to figure out please let me know in the comment section below! I am very interested in what you guys all think!
